COURSE AND NEW CLUBHOUSE NEWS

After a break over the Christmas and New year period, work on both the clubhouse and course have ramped back up.

At the clubhouse site after further delays prior to Christmas, the storm-water lines are currently being installed and should be completed within a few days from now.

At the clubhouse the roof is now completed over all three pods. Currently the external walls are being lined with a weatherproof sheeting which will be followed by the external cladding being installed.

This week the beer and post mix lines have been run from the cellar to the bar areas. This will allow sheeting of the lower ground level walls and ceiling to continue.

Air conditioning ducting is now being installed on the ground floor throughout the public and admin areas.

On the course Flemmings are preparing the new 15th and 16th greens to be turfed and seeded. This will include spraying the polymer coating to the surrounding bunkers, and finalising the irrigation connections. This is scheduled to happen next week.

In this area the new tees for the 16th hole have been shaped, along with shaping of the cart paths.

This week the sub base for the new 9th green has been shaped. There is still more work required to reshape the area to the front of the pond, along with the area to the left of the green which can only be done under the supervision of Viva due to the high-pressure oil pipeline that runs through this area.

Much of the work around the clubhouse site will start taking place once the storm water is complete. All of the upcoming work will take place on areas of the course which are currently out of play, so at this time the course routing will remain as it is for at least the next few weeks.

Mixed Pennants

Last weekend the first round of Mixed Pennants was played. We unfortunately had to play an away game at Richmond, on a day when temperatures hit 45 degrees. It was a tough challenge for our team in the heat, especially against Richmond who made the semi-finals in last years competition. Although we put up a fight in several matches we were unable to secure a point and lost the match 0-5. This week the team will be playing at home against Hurstville and will be looking to bounce back win our home match.

Major Pennants

The team that will represent Strathfield Gold Club this year in the 2018 Metropolitan Major Pennant competition has now been finalised. This year the team will compete in Division 4 and will compete against Roseville, Marrickville and Warringah in their group. The team to represent Strathfield is;

David Aramayo
Paul Chilari
Michael Cooke
Craig Delaney (captain)
Jason Fanning
Matt Kelman
James Roper
Jack Snelgrove
Sean Twomey
Steve Ring (Manager)

The first round of competition commences on Sun 11 February. We wish the team the best of luck this year, and hope that they can build on last years success. Any members wishing to support the team by spectating or caddying throughout the competition would be greatly appreciated. Details of the upcoming rounds will be advised closer to the commencement of competition.
