COURSE AND NEW CLUBHOUSE NEWS

Work at the clubhouse site is now making its way to the Northern entry side of the clubhouse. A number of services including stormwater and the construction of an electrical substation are currently underway.

The club has now received official sign-off from Viva Energy which allows the builders to begin work on Weeroona Road. This work includes additional stormwater lines and pits, electricity and NBN services, and the construction and paving of the new entry road.

External cladding of the building continues, with the majority now installed. Once installed the cladding is patched in the places where it is fixed to the steel structure, and then painted. Painting has now commenced on the top areas of the building.

This week the glass doors on the lower ground floor have been installed. Along with the glazing the lower ground floor is now lockable.

In the back of house areas the cool rooms and freezers are now completed and ready for cooling fans and compressors to be installed. The service lift has been commissioned and handed over to the club. The two public lifts have also been installed and are currently being programmed.

The sewer pumping station has now been completed and the area back filled. Flemmings will take over this area next week and continue the shaping of the new 9th fairway and tees.

Further down the 9th fairway the stockpiles of fill have been spread and shaped. The large hollow in the 18th fairway has also now been filled and levelled. The pond on the 9th fairway has also been reshaped this week. Most of the growth in the pond has also been excavated and cleaned up.

South of the clubhouse Flemmings have begun shaping of the practice facilities, and wiil commence shaping and contouring the immediate clubhouse surrounds next week.

The installation of jute matting and planting of native grasses has now been completed along a 250m segment of the river. This is the section adjacent to the clubhouse, from the start of the new 18th green, to the bridge to the left of the old 8th hole. Over 6,000 plants have been planted during the last week.

 new Mi-Score Scorecards and scanner

This coming week we will be installing and implementing a new scorecard and scanning system. This will see us return to the more traditional A5 sized cards. These scorecards will still be scanned for easy input.

Golfers may be familiar with this system particular system as it is being used in many other golf clubs. For those who have not used this format before information flyers will also be available next week to explain how to correctly mark these cards.

Below is information on how to mark and scan the new cards.

Below is a video which details the whole marking and scanning process.

On Sunday the Strathfield Mixed Pennants team were at home to Glenmore.

The match was neck and neck the whole way, with no individual games holding a substantial lead at any point. Even as the matches made their way to the 15th hole it was anyone’s game.

After winning the 17th hole our number 5 pair of Danny Sidhwa and Jenny Byun drew first blood and secured Strathfield’s first point, winning their match 2&1.

Brendan Hough and Sujin Yoo won consecutive holes on the 16th and 17th to also win their match 2&1

The three other matches went to the 18th hole. Harry and Grace Choi playing at number 4 halved their match resulting in a total of two and a half points for Strathfield and guaranteed at least a half for the overall result.

Greg Hough and Sook Yo at number 2 and Arjun Minocha and Angela Choi at number 1 were both unlucky to only halve their matches. Regardless the two halved matches secured 3.5 points for Strathfield and a win for the team.

This weekend the team will play their final match away against Hurstville, with tee off from 11:30am.

This years Pennants season started well on the back of last years success.

Jack Snelgrove led the way with an easy 6&4 win at number 7. Jason Fanning followed suit at number 4 with an easy win. It became tighter after that.

Eventually Sean Twomey and Craig Delaney had wins over their opponents.

A big congratulations to Yongjun Kim playing at number 1, coming back from 3 down with 5 to play to halve his match. The number 1’s best ball score was 7 under par for the match.

This Sunday Strathfield will compete against Marrickville at Marrikville with tee off from 7 am. The team that will represent Strathfield this weekend, unchanged from last week, in alphabetical order is;

Paul Chillari
Craig Delaney (c)
Jason Fanning
YongJun Kim
James Roper
Jack Snelgrove
Sean Twomey

Any member wishing to support the team will be warmly welcomed.
