COURSE AND NEW CLUBHOUSE NEWS

This week the clubhouse is really starting to resemble the artist impressions of how it will look once finished. All but a few small sections of the external cladding has been installed, patched and painted. A capping is also being installed around the top edge of the top edge of the cladding.

The stormwater work across the northern side of the clubhouse has also been completed and backfilled. Contractors have also started cutting and slashing the growth along the Weeroona Rd entry in preparation for screening andlandscaping of the clubs entry.

The sewer pumping station is now completed and has been back-filled and levelled. This will be blended into the shaping of the new 9th fairway.

Flemmings have commenced shaping the clubhouse surrounds along with their work on the practice facilities. The new chipping green and bunker have now been roughly shaped.

On the 9th hole Flemmings have continued shaping on the 9th and 18th fairways. The new 18th tees have been roughly formed up, along with topsoil being spread around the surrounds of the new 9th green.

The pond has been excavated and reshaped and is looking like it will be a fantastic feature of this new hole.

STRATHFIELD EVENT CENTRE WEBSITE

Forte, our new caterers who have been appointed to manage catering operations in the new clubhouse are now ready to go live with a website landing page for the function centre. This has been simply branded as the ‘STRATHFIELD EVENT CENTRE’.

This web page is dedicated to booking events in the clubs function areas. Once this is live they will increase marketing of the venue and locking in functions. A separate page will be developed for the other food and dining facilities within the clubhouse.

Fairway Residences now being occupied

Metro has now finished building over half of the Fairway Residence townhouses on our old practice fairway. As of today nine townhouses have been settled and the new owners are able to commence moving in.

On Saturday morning the front gates to the carpark will be relocated so that we can still secure the clubs current carpark without restricting access for the new residents.

Australia to Adopt world Handicapping system

This week Golf Australia accepted the invitation from the R&A and the USGA to adopt a World Handicapping system. Golf Australia has been integrally involved with both of these organisations in developing this new system. At this stage it looks as though every other major country will adopt this system.

For Australians the handicapping system will be almost unchanged apart from minor changes to technical regulations.

The two changes that may affect Australian golfers are;

  • A soft cap of 3 strokes. This will come into effect once a players GA reached a number 3 strokes more than their best handicap over the previous 12 months. From this point the players GA will only increase at 50% of the normal rate. The Hard cap will remain at 5 strokes about the best handicap obtained over the past 12 months.
  • The Daily Handicap calculation will be changed to incorporate the difference between the Scratch Rating and Par.

At this stage the target date for implementation is 2020.

On Sunday the Mixed Pennants team played the last of their pool games against Hurstville at their home course.

Conditions were tough for our team, playing on a course that is unfortunately suffering from the lack of rain over the last few months.

Strathfield was only able to take 1 point on the day. This was won by Danny Sidhwa and Angela Choi playing as the number 3 pair. After a magnificent tee shot by Angela on the uphill par 3 18th, two putts from 8ft is all that was needed to half the final hole and win their match 1up.

Our division was won by Richmond who will now playoff against Camden for a spot in the semi-finals.

Thank you to all those players that made themselves available to represent the club in this competition.

Strathfield had our return match against Marrickville this time at their home course.

We remain undefeated through a gutsy 3 1/2 all draw.

Wins from James Roper, Craig Delaney and Jason Fanning combined with Sean Twomey’s draw got us half the points.

This week we venture to Roseville at 7am on Sundayand will then host 2 of the last 3 games.

Currently we are second in our Division behind the undefeated Warringah.

The team that will represent Strathfield this weekend, in alphabetical order is;

Dave Aramayo
Paul Chillari
Craig Delaney (c)
Jason Fanning
James Roper
Jack Snelgrove
Sean Twomey

Any members support will be greatly appreciated

NEW MI-SCORE SCORECARDS AND SCANNER

On Wednesday the new MiScore scanner and scorecards were implemented at the pro-shop. So far there has been lots of positive feedback about this new system. Currently we are using generic MiClub branded scorecards, but we will have our own personalised cards printed once we can confirm all the local rules for the new course. Copies of the current local rules are available from the pro-shop.

For those who have not used this format before information flyers will also be available next week to explain how to correctly mark these cards.

Below is information on how to mark and scan the new cards.

Below is a video which details the whole marking and scanning process.
