COURSE AND NEW CLUBHOUSE NEWS

The clubhouse has been a hive of activity this week as contractors have been working on a range of different tasks to bring the clubhouse nearer to completion.

This week the installation of an electrical substation was started on the northern side of the clubhouse. This will require cabling to be run down Weeroona Rd from the club entry. This will be done at the same time as the stormwater pipes and pits are built along the road.

Storm water works are now being completed along the western side of the clubhouse and maintenance shed. This work will be completed before a service road is built to provide access to our loading dock and back of house areas.

On the lower ground floor a number of windows have been installed around the new pro-shop and the lower ground floor entry. The glass panels for the ground floor have also been ordered and will start being installed after the external cladding is completed.

In the back of house areas the refrigerated cool rooms and freezers have been constructed.

On the course the river maintenance contractors have been working on the area adjacent to the new 18th green, in front of the clubhouse. After clearing the creek banks, they are installing a jute matting which will stabilise the river banks, and also act as a weed suppressant to help manage regrowth. The bank will then be planted with a range of native shrubs and semi-aquatic plants.

Repairs to damage sustained on the new 18th green was repaired this week by our course staff. This involved turf cutting around the damaged areas, filling with topsoil and levelling and compacting to the correct contours. The turt is then carefully re-laid to the correct level and then rolled with the turf roller. Ongoing top dressing and dustings will bring these areas back to the required quality.

Turf has been laid in several more areas on the eastern side of the course. These include the area to the right of what is currently the 1st green, the approach to the new 13th green, and also the newly completed 17th tees.

Irrigation of the new 16th fairway area is currently being installed. Once this is operational the fairway will be line planted. This process involves using a machine that will plan thin strips of kikuyu which will then grow in over time to cover the whole fairway.

On the western side of the course Flemmings have begun preliminary work in shaping the new putting green in front of the clubhouse. Work is also occurring to level out sections of the new 18th fairway, and work on the new 9th fairway will commence next week.

 NEW CLUB LOGO

To coincide with the opening of our new clubhouse a new logo has been developed and adopted by the board. This will assist us in our future efforts to market SGC as a contemporary and modern first-class facility. Along with the logo, new style guidelines are being developed so we can generate a consistent brand between our marketing and clubhouse collateral.

This branding is one part of an extensive overall marketing plan which will be ongoing both during the lead-up, and following the opening of our new clubhouse and course.

You will soon begin noticing this new logo appearing in advertisements both in Inside Golf and Australian Golf Digest. As we near the opening of the new clubhouse our marketing effort will intensify and broaden to the wider market.

The club website is also now in the initial stages of being redeveloped, and once complete will be a great marketing tool to sell the stunning golf course and facilities that we will have on offer.

The current club crest will be retained but will not be used on marketing material.

NO Preferred lies

As of this Saturday 10 February 2018, there will be no preferred lies on any areas of the course. This includes the current 18th fairway and new work areas. Play the ball as it lies through the green.
