Greens Renovation Update

Posted on: 19 March

Dear Members,

Just an update as to how renovations went and a plan moving forward in the best interest for our greens.

All greens were renovated which involved the aeration of greens with an 8 mm tine. All cores were removed from the green and picked up to be spread in low areas of the course roughs.

Following the aeration of greens we usually topdress the greens to fill the core holes with fresh sand to promote infiltration, oxygen movement and root growth, and also restore smoothness to the greens surface.

With 125mm of rain since Friday afternoon we have been unable to topdress our greens. In order to topdress, the sand used on the greens needs to be dry so that it can be spread without damaging the turf. Due to the constant showers we need to postpone this procedure.

Weather pending, I endeavour to topdress the greens prior to competition on Thursday this week, and again on Tuesday next week to complete our renovations to the standard that is necessary for our young greens. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and will endeavour to keep it as painless as possible for our members and guests.

The team will now shift their attention to preparing the course for play on Wednesday, keeping in mind we need to fix every bunker because of washout due to the rain event. Unfortunately the mowing of fairways and roughs will not be possible due to the course being very wet, but we will endeavour to have the course mown by the weekend, weather pending.

Regards,

Andrew Cannon
Course Superintendent
