In 2013, the\u00a0PGA of America\u00a0announced that\u00a0Bethpage Black, a public golf course in\u00a0Bethpage State Park\u00a0on\u00a0Long Island, New York, would host the\u00a02019 PGA Championship\u00a0as well as the 2024 Ryder Cup (later delayed to 2025). Opened in 1936, Bethpage Black was designed by Joseph H. Burbeck and\u00a0A. W. Tillinghast.\u00a0It hosted Metropolitan PGA events such as the\u00a0New York State Open\u00a0and was first chosen as a venue for a top-level tournament at the\u00a02002 U.S. Open, which\u00a0Tiger Woods won.<\/p>\n

It was the second time New York had been selected as host of the Ryder Cup, after the 1995 Ryder Cup at Oak Hill Country Club, which Europe won 14.5 to 13.5.<\/p>\n
