MELBOURNE CUP DAY: It’s almost that Melbourne Cup time of year and once again we will be running the highly popular Melbourne Cup Day Golf and Carvery Buffet. Booking sheets are in the foyer and for further information please click here. COURSE SPRAYING TUESDAY OCTOBER 20TH: Members will have noticed some dark patches around the course where course staff have sprayed out the clover which surfaces at this time of year. On Tuesday October 20 early in the morning they will spray to control rye grass. The spray used for this control requires a window of time before it can be walked upon- otherwise the chemical can be transferred by foot to greens and other areas in which we do not want the chemical on other grasses. Therefore the course will be closed for social play until 10 am on Tuesday October 20 after the Ladies competition has finished teeing off- we apologise for any inconvenience. Information on spraying conducted on the course is displayed on a noticeboard at the first tee and MSDS data sheets are available from the proshop if required. MEN’S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP DRAWS: The match play draws for all grades of the Men’s Club Championships are now posted on the log in page of the club website. Please ensure you have checked your time and availability. COURSE AND CLUBHOUSE DEVELOPMENT: Please note that all information regarding development for the clubhouse and course is now located on the members’ page of the club website under the tab “Course Redevelopment”. This page will be updated as more information becomes available. GOLF AUSTRALIA NEWSLETTER: For the latest newsletter from Golf Australia please click here. LEXUS ENCORE CUP: The final round of the mixed Lexus Encore Cup will be played on Sunday November 8 with the winners from each of the four rounds playing at Twin Creeks with the chance to win an all-expenses paid golf holiday to Queenstown NZ. GOLF TIP: HIT IT CLOSE WITH YOUR SHORT IRONS- FROM PATRICK REED BACK: FEEL LIKE YOUR HANDS ARE ‘INSIDE YOUR CHEST’ Because the short irons are precision clubs, you need precise fundamentals. Align your feet carefully with the target line, and your hips and shoulders will fall into place automatically. I like my weight distributed 60-40 on my left side, and I keep it that way throughout the backswing. I position the ball in the centre of my stance, but if centre doesn’t feel right to you, play it back a bit–that’s better for solid contact than playing it up. Start the swing with your arms and shoulders moving back together, so one part doesn’t outrace the other. Focus on keeping your hands in front of your torso: I like them to feel “inside my chest”. At the top, my swing has a distinct pause, which helps me create a smooth sequence coming down. Start the downswing all at once, so your arms don’t lag behind and cause the club to fall behind you. DOWN: KEEP YOUR FEET PLANTED THROUGH IMPACT The outer limit of my 9-iron is 160 yards, plenty long to get at the tucked flags on tour. But power won’t do you much good if you lose control. An important key is quiet feet that stay like they were at address: glued to the ground. There’s no rolling of the feet, no dramatic weight shift. Your knees should be soft and flexed and stay level through impact. You also have to control clubface rotation. If you keep your arms in front of your body during the downswing, the face will square up, and then close after impact. Don’t flip the face closed with your hands, as that will de-loft the club and kill trajectory. The horizontal position of my club at the finish proves I haven’t flipped at the ball. If I had, the shaft would be down my back. WEEKLY GOLF RESULTS:
