Aussies on Tour: Golden girls win as Richard Green grabs second

The Australian foursome of LPGA Tour players were looking to go one better than the last time the international representative match play event was played in 2023 when finishing second to Thailand, and it was a campaign led by tournament MVP Minjee Lee that delivered more Australian women’s golf silverware.

Navigating their way through a week of pool matches and sudden death, the Aussies faced the might of the United States in the final and it was our two most experienced players who stood up and delivered in the singles matches.

After making it through to the final courtesy of extra holes and some clutch play from Kyriacou and Kim against the World team, Lee and Green accounted for Angel Yin and Yealimi Noh respectively to claim the title.

“My putt on the last hole, I was very nervous. I knew exactly what it was for. I said to the girls, I was just happy I got on the board. I’m glad I could contribute in some way this week,” Green said.

On the PGA TOUR Champions, Kiwi Steven Alker continued his amazing run in over-50s golf by claiming the Simmons Bank Championship for his 10th title, while Green closed with a 6-under final round to share runner-up honours, with fellow Victorian Cam Percy claiming a top five finish.

Scott Hend also managed a top five on the European Legends Tour in Italy, while Marc Leishman took his form from Western Australia to the Philippines where he finished sixth and David Micheluzzi and Adam Scott locked up DP World Tour cards for next year with made cuts in Korea.
