MEMBER SURVEY OUTCOMES & CLUB UPDATES

Dear Members,

We sincerely thank everyone who participated in the recent member survey. Your feedback is invaluable. Based on your responses—and following review by the Board and Management—several changes have already been implemented, with others added to our ongoing “To Do List” pending confirmation and scheduling.

The survey focused on five key areas:

  1. Playing Golf and the Golf Course
  2. The Proshop and Staff
  3. Clubhouse Amenity
  4. Food and Beverage
  5. Club Management and the Board

  1. Playing Golf and the Golf Course

Understandably, overall satisfaction has decreased from 78% in 2024 to 69% in 2025, largely due to the long-running Irrigation and Drainage projects, which have impacted course playability and aesthetics.

Project Update:

  • The irrigation project on holes 9 to 18 is now complete.
  • The drainage works—delayed by severe wet weather—are expected to continue into July 2025. However, the remaining work is less invasive, and several treated holes have already proven playable even after 288mm of rain

Survey-Informed Improvements:

  • Wednesday Competition Format: Now using a “Hybrid” 1-Tee start to increase AM bookings by 48 spots through a 2-Tee start.
  • Pace of Play Monitoring: We’re tracking round times on weekends and Wednesdays. Repeat instances of being “out of position” will have consequences.
  • Course Marshals: Based on your feedback, Marshals will monitor pace of play—particularly on Sundays, where rounds tend to take longer than on other competition days.
  • Member Conduct with Marshals: Members are expected to interact respectfully with Marshals, who are experienced golfers empowered to promote Ready Golf and help maintain pace of play standards

  1. The Proshop and Staff
  • Facility Improvements: Mark Reeve and Club Management are collaborating on staged upgrades to the Proshop layout and flow, which we expect members will appreciate.
  • Service Culture: While feedback on staff interactions is positive, we’ll place more focus on welcoming guests and green fee players while reinforcing etiquette, course care, and pace of play expectations.

  1. Clubhouse Amenity

We’ve made several improvements this year, including the installation of three sets of automatic doors to improve clubhouse access. Further projects include:

  • Safe and cost-effective removal of birds from the basement car park, making the area more functional.
  • Repair of a long-standing leak in the expansion joint between the east and west wings, followed by internal ceiling and skirting restoration.
  • Continued landscaping and garden maintenance.
  • Cleaning and replacement of both indoor and outdoor furniture.
  • Ongoing improvements to locker room presentation and facilities.

  1. Food & Beverage

The Chair of House and Management continue to work closely with The Fresh Collective to act on feedback— especially around portion sizes (both too large and too small), pricing, and value for money.

Ongoing Improvements:

  • “Grab & Go” options are being expanded at the kiosk.
  • Bistro and halfway kiosk service times are being streamlined with the introduction of a QR code ordering system. Once registered, the process is simple and efficient.

  1. Club Management & the Board

We are committed to keeping members informed and acting on your feedback. We sincerely thank those who offered honest insights and trust that the improvements you see reflect that input.

The Board and Management have also established a Strategic Plan to 2030, aimed at ensuring the club’s long-term financial health. A recent SWOT analysis identified several key focus areas:

  • Enhancing the course’s ability to recover from prolonged wet weather to reduce closures and increase cart availability.
  • Completing the irrigation upgrade to ensure optimal use of our significantly increased water license.
  • Improving pace of play, particularly during competition rounds.
  • Partnering with a professional catering and events company to enhance offerings and service.
  • Increasing green fee access and corporate bookings to strengthen revenue streams.
  • Finalising the Course Master Plan to ensure a strategic layout that combines exciting risk-reward holes with thoughtful design for all playing levels.

Thank you once again for your engagement and continued support. We look forward to delivering further improvements and updates throughout the year.

“Finally, I encourage all members to read and embrace The Strathfield Way—our code of conduct that underpins a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment. By following these principles, we can all enjoy the best of what Strathfield has to offer, both on and off the course.”

The Strathfield Way – Our Code of Conduct

Respect – Enjoyment – Integrity

The Strathfield Way provides a set of principles to guide the behaviour and attitudes of Members of our club however at its core are three themes: Respect, Enjoyment and Integrity. Members who intentionally breach The Strathfield Way are not welcome at our club and will face disciplinary proceedings. The Strathfield Way will apply to any Member, Visitor, Employee or Contractor who comes to our facility.

Respect:

  • For Each Other: We will offer and expect polite and respectful behaviour. We will stay still and quiet whilst others are hitting. We will comply with the Club Dress Code. We will engage with all staff politely. We will not tolerate behaviour, which is rude, intimidatory, offensive, aggressive or generally unacceptable by normal social standards.
  • For Our Differences: We are part of a diverse multicultural society bound by our passion for the game of golf. We will be welcoming, demonstrating tolerance and acceptance of our differences. We will not tolerate discriminatory language or attitudes of any kind.
  • For The Course and Club: We take pride in the presentation of our Clubhouse and Golf course and demonstrate this by;

–        Always filling divots on the golf course, repairing pitch marks on the greens and raking our footprints in bunkers.

Never damaging or removing Club property, erecting signage of any type or bring animals onto the course or into the club house.

When practicing never use more than 2 balls and always report to the ProShop.

A maximum of 6 balls may be used for practice on the putting and chipping greens.

Enjoyment:

  • Of the Game: We play golf and are Members of this Club to enjoy the game in a safe and peaceful environment. We will demonstrate this by not using language which may offend those around us and despite the frustrations of this wonderful game we will take our ups and downs with good grace.
  • Of a Safe Environment: We acknowledge that Greens staff have the right to a safe work environment and always have the right of way. We will never knowingly hit a shot where there is a risk that others may be hit until they have overtly signalled that it is safe to do so by being “called up”.
  • Of a Fast Pace of Play: We recognise that our time is valuable and for the enjoyment of our play and those of others we will keep up with the group in front. Slow play is selfish play.

Integrity:

  • Play by the rules: We will learn and play by the rules of golf and local rules of SGC. We will ask if we don’t know.
  • Play fairly and honestly: Golf is a game of honour. We will display the highest degree of sportsmanship and honesty.
  • Protect the Reputation of the Club: Members will never use social media in a way which impugns the reputation of the Club
  • Duty to report: We will hold ourselves and others accountable by reporting behaviour which breaches of The Strathfield Way.

Warm regards,
Glenn Phillips
General Manager
Strathfield Golf Club
