MARKING OF CARDS FOR 2BBB COMPETITION

From this Saturday, 29 April, the Board has ruled that if playing in a 2BBB event, players must swap cards with the other players in their group where possible, so that a player is not marking the card of his partner.

COURSE AND NEW CLUBHOUSE NEWS

Due to the sustained period of relatively dry weather, from Saturday we will be reopening the temporary 11th green, which is located on the old 9th fairway. We will then play a longer par 4 to the old 10th green location as the 12th hole.

Also from Saturday preferred lies will be on closely mown portions only, not ‘through the green’. Golf balls off the closely mown areas must be played as it lies.

At the clubhouse site most of the plumbing on the western side has now been completed and back filled. This area of the site will now being prepared for the first pour of the basement level slab, which will occur sometime next week,

Below is a video of the course works showing the new greens and the turf laid in these areas. The remaining areas should be turfed within the week. The creek has also received a follow up spraying, with much more of the noxious weeds now dying. A lot of the dead weed will need to be removed manually once it is completely to dead to avoid it regenerating in the future.

GOLF TIP

Feel This One Move To Quit Slicing
Move your left arm the right way to start the downswing. (Golf Digest)

There’s a reason more Golf Digest instruction attention has been devoted to the slice than any other subject throughout our history.

A lot of people do it, and it can be a hard problem to fix.

A lot of advice starts with changing the way you swing the club or the amount, direction and timing of your lower body movement. That advice can be fine, but many players are looking for a simple, single cue to get going on the right track.

Top Maryland teacher Bernie Najar has one of those cues: Your left arm. “When a slicer starts the downswing, the left arm moves excessively outward and away from the torso,” says Najar, who is based at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills. “This mistake sends the club into the ball in an open position relative to the swing path.”

To fix it, make some slow practice swings where you start the downswing with the feel of your left arm pressing against the side of your torso. “Groove this feeling and your left arm will stay to the inside on the downswing, and your slice will disappear.”
