COURSE AND NEW CLUBHOUSE NEWS

At the clubhouse site the builders have poured the second section of the club’s basement slab on Tuesday. This is approximately a third of the basement slab done. The remaining areas of the site have been cleared, and will be ready to be poured very soon.

Scaffolding and form work is also starting to go up on the area of completed slab, in preparation for the support columns and lower ground floor.

Over the last few days we have had several truckloads of sand delivered, which the course staff have been able to use to start topdressing the turf laid around the newly built tees and greens. The new greens are also showing a lot of progress and are developing a very nice even cover.

Early Wednesday morning contractors were in to clear a section of scrub from the back of the old 11th tee. This is where the gas connection is that we will be hooking into for the new clubhouse. The teeing area needed to be roped off to create work zone and access point for the contractors. With the area now cleared, this tee is back in play until the builders are ready to install the necessary gas lines.

GOLF TIP

Two Simple Adjustments To Hit Great Short-Game Shots – Brandon Stooksbury (Golf Digest)

The standard operating procedure on chips and pitches is to set up open to your target and swing the club down and left through impact. You can hit the ball solidly this way, but it’s tough to control the trajectory and direction without a lot of practice.

An easier and more reliable way to hit these shots is from a square stance. That means your toes, hips and shoulders should be aligned parallel left of your target. Put a little more weight on your left leg than your right, and make sure your shoulders are fairly level. The ball should be centered between your feet for a medium-trajectory shot; a little more forward if you want to hit it higher.

When you swing, focus on moving the clubhead toward the target. A helpful visual is to imagine you’re tossing the ball underhand. You wouldn’t throw it left of your target. You’d go directly at it. That’s all there is to this technique.
