COURSE AND NEW CLUBHOUSE NEWS

Work on our new clubhouse continues to progress, and each day we are a little bit closer to completion.

The main activity at the clubhouse is installing the mass of cables and pipe work for all of the services including electricity, networking, water and gas.

After many delays the stormwater works in front of the clubhouse are now complete. This area has now been handed over to Flemmings who will soon commence work on the practice putting and chipping facilities.

The builder is using all of their resources to ensure that the basement and lower ground floors of the clubhouse are completed prior to the 7th of April, when we hand over our current clubhouse site. These areas include the pro-shop, members locker rooms, back of house areas, half-way house and the leasable office spaces. This will allow us to temporarily operate out of the lower ground floor for a limited period of time until the ground floor is completed.

The below images show the current progress of the internal areas of the club.

On the course lots of work has been completed in the last week. On Tuesday our course staff seeded both the new 15th and 16th greens. It is important that members refrain from walking on these greens, especially during the early stages of growth as it can have a detrimental effect to the putting surface. Additional turf was also laid around the surrounds of these greens. Zoysia around the bunker edges was done with turf growing in the nursery behind the old 18th green. Additional turf will be delivered next week to continue turfing of the surrounds of both of these greens, and also the area where the old 17th green was located.

Throughout the week the concrete paths around the 15th and 16th greens were poured, and the concrete kerbs were started on Thursday.

On the western side of the course the new 9th green has now been sanded. Last week we received approval from Viva to commence work on the area that the Viva pipeline runs through. This allowed Flemmings to trim and shape the approach to this green, including the area of the front pond where the sandstone wall was removed from. The concrete path which winds around the green towards the underpass has also been completed this week.

MIXED PENNANTS

Last weekend the Mixed Pennants team travelled to play Glenmore Heritage on their home course. The match was moved forward to an 8:45am tee off to try to beat the heat, which reached 40 degrees by the time all the matches were completed.

Through the front 9 the match was extremely close with Strathfield up in one match, Glenmore up in two, and the other two all square. Unfortunately for Strathfield the home team was too strong on the back nine and in the end secured 4 wins to Strathfield’s 1. Congratulations to Brendan Hough and Sujin Yoo who secured the single point for Strathfield with a 2up win.

There are no games this week due to the long weekend. The following week the team will play at home against Richmond.

Course Etiquette

We would like to remind members to refrain from hitting up on groups in-front. Please be mindful during periods of strong wind when shots may travel much further than usual. This can be extremely dangerous for players on the course.  Any player found to be endangering other golfers will face disciplinary action from the board.
